The new grades 9-1 are immensely confusing for many students. The government have been tight-lipped over many aspects of the new grades, only allowing exam boards to release limited material. So far, we've had banded mark schemes and the following graphic from Ofqual: What this meant was that sixth-form colleges and schools were aiming to achieve a minimum of a grade 5 as a 'good' pass. However, following feedback from schools and colleges, this has been relaxed slightly. The boundaries still stand, but this year, grade 4 is classed as a 'good' pass. This may not continue into next year - so don't get your hopes up! However, what it does allow you to do is put your current achievement into perspective - if you're currently working at a grade 3 or 4, you're clearly on the right track.
